Once upon a time this blog started with a "year of useless hobbies": I was bored and everything felt the same, so I came up with the idea of trying something new every month and cranking up my joy for life that way (the start of the learning curve is just amazing, trust me). Asya invited me onto her podcast Slash/people to talk about this game, it turned out really joyful, thank you!
And here's what was going on: June: calligraphy. tbh this is my most beloved hobby and the one that stuck with me for the long haul, and I could lie that all the others were just for looks July: storytelling. Something went wrong and, if you ask me, this was the biggest flop of a month, but (!!!) it inspired Asya to listen to that Pixar course I'd abandoned and to go study to be a screenwriter, so it wasn't all for nothing. August: dancing what I don't know how to dance. 'Cause you can follow. I love social dancing and that month I went to other people's parties. Fun, peppy and awkward, recommend. September: climbing up to observation decks in Moscow. Pure delight. All month I played "guess where the photo is from" and that's exactly when I came up with doing polls with the answers "brontosaurus or broccoli" October: going to museums. Because you can pick the thing you've long wanted to do but for some reason keep not doing. November: spinning poi. December: waiting for New Year. The most important month - for a couple of years before this, in December I'd get swamped by workaholism and I'd miss everything and wake up in February. January: sculpting. Plasticine is very tactile, and ceramics — just out of this world. February: sculpting again. The pottery wheel takes forever, and the rules can be broken. March: sticking googley eyes everywhere April: singing. An esoteric time-café, a string concert hugging a shark, and vocals (which carried on this fall, hobbies sprout into the future!) May: a new era of myself suddenly clicked into being, and the year, quite logically because of that, ended a little early. Mischief managed!
