Why should everyone be thinking about Argentina in 2023?
I fall more in love with Argentina every single day, so buckle up and get ready to listen. Maybe you'll want to come here too?
Honestly, just six months ago I knew basically nothing about Argentina. Well, aside from that Argentina–Jamaica song, quotes from my beloved Cortázar, and the fact that Argentine vino is great and cheaper than the European kind. You probably know about the same amount, so let me tell you everything.
What makes Argentina so great?
1) It's easy to get here (especially if you turn a blind eye to the trans-Atlantic flight). Russian citizens can fly into Argentina visa-free for 90 days, and the fine for overstaying is ~$40. And if you want to settle in for the long haul, there are tons of ways to get a residence permit: passive income, studying, a digital nomad visa. After 2 years of legal residence you can apply for citizenship. And if you have a baby in Argentina or marry an Argentine (guy or gal) — you don't have to wait the 2 years.
2) Cheaper than Europe. If you earn your money remotely somewhere, it feels really nice. Cappuccino $1.5, a steak at a restaurant (a portion basically for two) $10, a doctor's visit at a top clinic $10–20. And on top of that Buenos Aires is European and easy to get: Argentina is a country of immigrants, and they brought little pieces of their cultures along with them.
3) People who are really content with life. The economy and politics here are pretty unstable, but Argentines just glow with the unhurried pace of life and joy. I'm learning from them.
4) Argentina is a fantastic place for traveling. It's long: from the tropics all the way down to the very southern edge. And it feels like it has everything: glaciers, volcanoes, the ocean, waterfalls, jungles, snowy mountains, pine forests, blue-blue lakes. Eagles fly over the cities. Capybaras stroll around the outskirts of Buenos Aires. Leave me a comment saying it's time for me to become a travel blogger, and I'll tell you the story about a wild ostrich.
5) Learning Spanish is good Alzheimer's prevention.
